Exposé – Williamsville School District hosts all ages drag event

Williamsville, NY — On April 25th, 2024, Williamsville Central School District hosted an all ages drag event on school grounds. This event was promoted in classrooms and printed material was provided by school staff. The event itself was sponsored by Gay Lesbian Youth Services. The Superintendent, Daren Brown-Hall is the president elect of this organization. When we tried to FOIL more information from the school we were denied. We appealed and were denied again. It was at that moment we discovered Darren Brown-Hall is also the FOIL records appeal officer. Obviously this raises many questions about a potential conflict of interest. Who are the drag queens? What expenses were incurred and how were they billed? Was there a contractual agreement with money budgeted? What kind of content were minors subjected to? We may never know the answers to these questions and it’s clear Williamsville Central School does not intend to be forthcoming with answers. What we requested:
“Receipts, Billing Invoices, Sponsors, Promotional Material, Registration Forms, Waivers, Permission slips, Presentions, Records or portions thereof“.

Reason for Denial:
“The event in question was not a Williamsville School District Event and we are not in possession of any of the requested materials“. You could deduce this means either one of two things; Williamsville believes you don’t deserve to know anything about who or what children were exposed to on school grounds during this event -or- they didnt retain any records or portions thereof. This raises serious safety concerns for the students at Williamsville Central School District. We believe parents and taxpayers deserve to know even if they chose not to attend.

What’s next?
The only thing left at this point is to file a article 78 lawsuit in supreme court. This is something we are absolutely willing to do however, it takes money. If we receive enough donations to cover the litigation costs within the 4 month window (7/29/24 ->11/29/24) that’s what we’ll do. View our donation page.
